The Christmas and New Year holidays are considered as the best time to relax, celebrate with your families, but also to reflect on where you are with your career.
While you’re busy eating, relaxing, and celebrating, you can be doing some valuable reflecting as well. This is the perfect time to ask yourself some questions that will determine what your next year (s) will be like. January is theoretically when the job market starts moving, so it’s a good time to look for opportunities.

Ask yourself what went wrong in 2020?
Of course, 2020 was a difficult year for the whole world, and for many people, it did not go according to plan, maybe even for you. But you have to think and analyze that part that was in your hand. Analyze the work you did, your performance, the company, the income you earned, how much you spent, your lifestyle, etc. List what you have achieved this year and ask yourself if you are happy with them.

Do I feel valued enough at work?
Although some organizations are good at managing talent, others just aren’t. You need to ask yourself if you feel valued enough in the company you work for. Are you satisfied with the organization of work, with the salary, the colleagues, the boss? Do you continue to share the same values with that company, the same goals, and aspirations or has something changed in you? If that company seems ‘not enough’ to your goals, this is the time for a change.

Who is my dream employer?
If the job you currently have is not what you have always wanted, 2021 could be your year to make a big change. Search the internet and make a list of companies you want to work for and when you have made the decision and are ready do not hesitate to send them an email. Dare to win. Get out of your comfort zone. Your moment is now.

Where do you see yourself after 5 or 10 years?
If you are thinking about a career change you need to have in mind the big picture, a clear vision of where you see yourself after 5 or 10 years. This will help you to be more careful and clearer in the steps you will take.

Who can I talk to?
As a career expert, I believe that discussing your options with someone is often helpful. Talk to your friends or family about your next job and career move. They will give you an objective opinion that will be of value to you. Sometimes we need to hear others talking about us in order to understand more about ourselves. Also, the family and people you love are the ones who motivate you and fill you with confidence. Believing in your abilities is very important if you want to make a difference in your career.
